It has been about 100 years since people started traveling for New Hampshire resort vacation and recreation to New Hampshire Resort Hotel. In
order to provide accommodation for these travelers the early grand New Hampshire Resort Hotels
were built in and around the White Mountain region of New Hampshire. In the late 19th century
there was a greater concentration of New Hampshire resort grand hotels in New Hampshire's White Mountains
than anywhere else in America. Travelers arrived by stagecoach and then by railroad. At the
height of the New Hampshire resort era there were accommodations for more than 12,000 people in the regions 200
resort hotels, inns and boarding houses. Major New Hampshire resort hotels including the Glen House, Crawford House,
Fabyan House, Profile House, the Maplewood and Waumbek all had their own train station and
livery service. Each one of these resort luxury hotels had accommodation for 400 or more guests with
comfort and elegance including Hampshire gas lighting, fancy dining, lawn tennis, and services of local
mountain guides. Each of these Resort Hotels was built entirely of wood and would be eventually
destroyed by fire. There are a few New Hampshire Resort Hotel in the Mt Washington region
today to carry on the tradition of luxury guest rooms and lodging for those seeking
accommodation in the White Mountain Region. Two of the most prominent in the area are the Mt
Washington Hotel at Bretton Woods and the White Mountain Hotel in North Conway. Both of these New Hampshire resort
properties feature luxury guest rooms, fine dining, cozy taverns, wonderful traditionally
appointed lobbies with grand fireplaces, golf, Jacuzzis, swimming pools, tennis, and hot tubs.
Along with the New Hampshire Resort Hotel amenities these hotels also provide access to the many recreational
activities associated with the region. There are also many family amusements and attractions
in the area including StoryLand in Glen, Santa's Village in Jefferson, Attitash resort in Bartlett,
and many others including Whales Tale, Polar Caves, Scenic Railroad, Old Man of the Mountain,
Lost River, Gondala's and scenic chair lift rides offer spectacular views of the area and are
especially popular during the fall foliage season when the turning leaves paint the mountains with all
the spectacular colors of the season. Plan your next New Hampshire resort vacation to the Mt. Washington Valley and
